Empallo is solving the $30 billion challenge of high expenditure coupled with poor outcomes among U.S. heart failure (HF) patients. Empallo is an AI-powered virtual clinic that optimizes therapy planning by cardiologists and shifts an appropriate range of medication titration activities to advanced practice providers (APPs), nurses and software solutions. They created a new market where HF patients no longer need to make frequent trips (often over long distances) to brick-and-mortar health centers; rather, they can access specialty HF care from the convenience of their home, extending their quality life years by decades. Empallo's approach aims to address the specialist shortage, reduce costs and improve patient outcomes.
Claire Beskin, co-founder and CEO of Empallo, grew up wanting to be a doctor like her dad but later realized her skills could potentially make a bigger impact in health care through advancing innovative technology and new business models. While studying at MIT, Claire pitched a health care venture idea at a hackathon, met her co-founder Ray Liao shortly thereafter and teamed up with Ray to co-found Empallo. Claire earned an MBA from MIT with a concentration in health care and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. Claire has prior work experience in product management, management consulting and finance.
